I've used a retractable lead in the past with a very anxious dog and found it immensely stressful when there were others around or suddenly appeared. Eski (supposed to be a Pomeranian but turned out to be a Japanese Spitz) used to get very protective when I was walking him and worried me on a few occasions as to what he might do if I just let him loose. It was only after a week at doggy borstal that I came to realise the benefits of fixed leads and the extra control it provides. 

We've always used fixed leads for Bo, but that has mainly been more about the aesthetics than anything else as he's never been the typical 'barky' Chihuahua.

When we set up the business there was only one choice, and we'll never sell retractable leads, but do understand why people do buy them!
